KEITH CRAIN
The only thing permanent is change
For as long as most of us can remember, the U.S. automobile business has had cycles. Whenever there was a down cycle, you knew you had to hang in there, and before long, things would come back to normal. And then you would see the cycle head upward again. It's not going to be that simple this time Keith Crain is publisher and editorial director of Automotive News. ...

was  15-19mpg

now 23+ mpg @75mph

    idle 500rpm

I grooved the head on my 92 toyota with about 18000 miles on it. I was getting 15 to 19 mpg depending on wind and mountains, I live in Montana and drive a pass often and there always seems to be a lot of wind. After Mr. Sing saw a pic of the toyta head he said it would work so I gave it a try. The head shop said the head had been shaved as much a possible already and it was straight so I just grooved the head on the valve side with a triangle file and smoother it with emery paper. the idle is now smooth at 500 rpm and the milage is up above 23 running 75mph at this altitude varying 4000 feet to 8000 feet. I put an electric fan on and took off the Lund visor and that seemed to help the power so I may be getting even better milage, we will see after this tank of gas.

thank you Mr. Sing!!    later, Gene Moore    Bozeman Montana

the truck now has 190000 miles on it, after putting new timing chain and guides I was able to set the timing way up with no pings. it runs really nice and strong now, better than I ever got from this engine especially in a rig this heavy and the conditions I have here. contact me if you wnat to do one of these heads, it really does the trick and it's soooo simple. gene
