Continental eyes electrical autos as " diesel car demand declines " ????
FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) -- Continental plans to replace what it sees as an increasingly sluggish demand for diesel fuel cars with supplies to the future trend of electrical cars, board member Karl-Thomas Neumann told Handelsblatt.
"Regarding diesel fuel, I'm more skeptical by now. There's not much happening in the U.S.," he said.

KEITH CRAIN
The only thing permanent is change
For as long as most of us can remember, the U.S. automobile business has had cycles. Whenever there was a down cycle, you knew you had to hang in there, and before long, things would come back to normal. And then you would see the cycle head upward again. It's not going to be that simple this time Keith Crain is publisher and editorial director of Automotive News. ...

Turbo Dodge and Saturn SOHC

I have a SOHC turbo Dodge 8-valve head that has been milled from 54 cc to 46 cc and has 2 grooves added. This will be going onto an '89 Daytona Shelby that has already been dyno'd at 199.XX wheel horse power. It will be dyno'd again after the head install.

I also have a 1.9 SOHC 8-valve Saturn head that has been milled for a 10.5:1 CR (up from stock 9.5:1) and has 3 grooves added. The Saturn head will be unique in that it will have one groove that does not aim at the spark plug at all. It will be useful on the compression stroke, directing a jetstream in the direction of intended swirl, but won't act conventionally on the power stroke. The other 2 grooves work pretty much like everyone elses.

Will post results after the installs.

A grooved head I shipped to Florida is finally getting dialed in. '89 LeBaron, 2.5 S-50 turbo, Spearco IC, +40 injectors, & custom cal.

Stock mileage was 23/27 mpg. He is now seeing 35/42 mpg!

Stock HP was 152 crank. He isn't quite sure where he's at, but it's in the neighborhood of 400 HP!

HE'S RUNNING 30 PSI BOOST ON 93 OCTANE PUMP GAS WITH ONLY WATER INJECTION ADDED FOR DETONATION CONTROL!!!!

Now that's what I'm talking about! Can you theorize the boost it could run at without preignition and without the water injection?

That question was already posted elsewhere & I'm not sure what the answer was. He was using a cheap boost gauge for initial testing then switched to a quality unit later on. On the cheapie he was registering 25 psi, but on the good one, with no other changes, it read 30 psi. So whatever his boost reading was before needing the water, it was inaccurate.

This is great progress, thanks for keeping us informed. I have this feeling that this is the tip of the iceberg.

Any updates?

I have a turbocharged LS1 that I am getting ready to add 3-4 grooves to, so I am very interested.

I did find out that the LeBaron was running 23 psi on 93 octane before the knock counts started.

As for the Saturn, he got it up to a best of 56.8 mpg. I am currently working on a '99 16 valve Saturn for the same guy. It is due to be completed in about 2 weeks (machine shop turn-around time estimated).
